Shilla Strelka is a freelance cultural journalist, curator and concert organiser, based in Vienna.
Main focus of her journalistic and curatorial practice are sonic experiments, dissident digital dialects and idiosyncratic outbursts of artistic expression. Strelka is interested in direct forms of communication and the political potential of shared experience. Her research interest evolves around post-fundamental concepts of (sonic) communities and the politics of aesthetics. In 2012 she initiated the concert series Struma+Iodine which focusses on contemporary electronic music. Trying to overcome the dichotomy of so called high and counter culture, she is searching for communal rhythms in sonic structures and modes of perception. Since 2015 she curates the Unsafe+Sounds Festival which is based on trans-disciplinary and genre-bending communication. She co-curated the Electric Spring Festival in 2016 and co-organized the open-air concert series Parken at Sigmund Freud Park, Wien. Strelka studied Digital Media at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. She graduated from University Vienna, where she studied theatre-, film- and media studies, philosophy, art history and german literature. She writes texts on music, fine arts, film and popular culture for mica, skug, donaufestival Krems, sixpackfilm, Elevate Festival, Wien Modern, Rokko’s Adventures, amongst others. She is working as press-assistant for the music label Editions Mego and djs regularly as Inou Ki Endo.
